Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and to vigour. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, someone who was left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…

 In Loving Memory of:

Sammy.jpeg

My Precious "  Sammy"

Sam was my very inspiration to start Caring Canines.
He became a Therapy Dog in 2002.
He just loved being out meeting all the new people
and making everyone smile.

Sam lost his fight with severe arthritis and kidney & liver failure
and had to put him to sleep on March 1st.
He was a true fighter up to the very end.

Sam was 16 years and 8 months and he spent that time sharing
his joy and love to all that knew him.
We were very blessed to have such a wonderful dog to this age
and we miss him terribly.

We will love you Sammy for always...

WINSTON
HANDLER - HOWARD CANN

It is with a heavy heart that I have to report that our
Yellow Lab Winston passed away on 27 Oct.
He had two seizures on 23 Oct and never recovered.
He was 11 ½ years old.
One of the many highlights of his life was being a
Therapy Dog in Florida and St Croix.
When I put on his vest he knew he was going on a
visitation and what his mission was.
He got to socialize with other dogs and their owners and
brought joy, happiness and love to the people we visited.
Winston was actually our son John’s dog
but because of his extensive world travel
He couldn’t keep him so about six years ago he became our granddog.
We have lots of happy memories of our time with Winston and
it was an experience we’ll never forget.

Below is our sons tribute to Winston which he posted on Facebook:

Good bye old friend.

You passed on in the loving arms of my Mom and Dad today far away from me.

You grew up enjoying the farm, horses, eating poop and great food

we never should have given you.

In your second life you brought so much joy to my parents and so many people

as a therapy dog

for Caring Canines in FL,   then again in St. Croix.

How many dogs make it into the newspaper?

Dad cleverly flew you to STX in the airplane in first class when they moved there.

Not many dogs have had a life like you did.

My parents and I mourn our loss now.

But I am grateful to you for being my friend, companion,

and all the memories I will always treasure.

I raise my glass, say a toast, and a prayer for a truly wonderful soul.

I am sure you are now in a better place,

ready to happily greet us when we all arrive.

Godspeed Winnie... We love you
